KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) has lashed out against Elly Pamatong’s despicable act of burning the Malaysian flag, the Jalur Gemilang, in the Philippines on Jan 19 and 21.
Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM) president Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay said IRIMM condemned Pamatong’s offensive act which had enraged Malaysians.
“The Philippine government has to intervene and make sure such acts are not repeated,” he said after submitting a memorandum at the Philippine Embassy here yesterday.
Amir was referring to a controversial video showing Elly Pamatong, the self-proclaimed founder of the United States Allied Freedom Fighters of the East (USAFFE), burning the Malaysian flag.
The video titled “President Pamatong Supporters” was posted on Facebook on Jan 19 and 21.
In the video, Pamatong had also allegedly made some anti-Malaysian comments.
On Feb 7, Wisma Putra in a statement urged the Philippine government to take firm action against Pamatong and to ensure that similar incidents do not recur as it could affect bilateral ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Philippine government said it did not condone Pamatong’s act, adding that it did not represent the country’s stand. – Bernama
