KUCHING: Hope Place recently extended help to a family of five living in Tapah near here by providing them with basic food aid and drinking water.

The family, consisting of Recky Batu, his wife, two sons and his elderly father, was facing severe difficulties when the NGO came across them.

Recky, who works as a construction worker, earns a daily wage of RM50 but his income fluctuates depending on the availability of work.

Earlier this year, when his father required minor surgery at SGH, Recky had to take a prolonged leave from work, leading to a significant decrease in the family’s income.

Adding to their challenges, Recky’s wife has been unable to secure employment, further impacting their financial situation.

Additionally, Recky’s two teenage sons, aged 12 and 14, currently do not possess MyKad identification documents, which has made it impossible for them to enrol in regular schools.

However, a group of kind-hearted individuals stepped in to assist the boys in pursuing their education through online studies by providing them with the necessary equipment.

As a result, the boys are now able to engage in subjects such as English, Science, Biology and Mathematics.

Recky expressed gratitude, stating that his sons showed great enthusiasm for learning and never missed their three weekly classes.

The family’s house lacks access to both water and electricity. They rely on rainwater or the nearby river as their water source.

Fortunately, in 2019, they received sponsored solar lights, which have provided some comfort and enabled their children to attend online classes.

For further information or to offer assistance, individuals can contact Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) at 082-505987.
