KUCHING: Sarawak recorded yet another zero positive Covid-19 cases today, as the total number of cases remains at 1,090.

Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said four new cases had recovered and discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), bringing the total cumulative total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,060 or 97.25 percent.

“11 cases are still receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards — seven in SGH, three in Sibu Hospital and one in Miri Hospital.

“Apart from that, two new persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and are awaiting laboratory results,” he said during the Covid-19 press conference today at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building here.

Uggah added that 375 new persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had checked into quarantine centres.

“This brings the total number of PUS at 40 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide to 4,481 while 42,444 have completed their quarantine period.

“Kuching and Sibu maintain their yellow zone status after three locally transmitted cases were reported in the last 14 days — two in Sibu and one in Kuching — while other 38 districts are green zones,” he said.

As for positive cases of returning Sarawakians from West Malaysia, Labuan and Sabah who are quarantined in hotels, Uggah revealed that 83 positive cases were reported since April 5 until today, which contributed 7.6 percent from 1,090 positive cases in the state.

“It is still considered high because SDMC will determine that the mandatory quarantine will continue to be carried out, even if it causes some inconvenience for individuals,” he said.

Uggah also hoped that the public will continue to work together to curb the spread of Covid-19 and adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Our Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Datuk Noor Hisham applauded and expressed his appreciation for the state’s effort — in our ability to reduce the number of positive cases and cut the Covid-19 chain.

“Our frontliners are able to do that because Sarawakians understand and give their cooperation, and they know that the sacrifices taken now is for the future,” he said.
