MIRI: A typical laundry day turned into a harrowing experience for a 32-year-old man here.

He was about to wash some clothes in his Taman Tunku home early Tuesday (Aug 2) when a cobra measuring about 1m (3ft) gave him a shock.

The reptile was curled up next to his washing machine. The stunned homeowner quickly called the Civil Defence Force (APM) for help.

Four APM personnel later arrived at the house. It took them less than 10 minutes to catch the venomous snake.

The whole operation ended around 10.20am. The cobra was later released back into the wild.
