KUCHING: The State Labour Department yesterday in a statement said that it is not an offence for employers in Sarawak to pay their employees’ salaries in cash under the Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Chapter 76).

“If the employer needs further clarification on this matter, they can contact the State Labour Department’s head office at 082-242261 or any of the Labour Department offices in the state,” it said.

The Department of Labour of Peninsular Malaysia has issued a compound to employers who pay salaries in cash to their employees.

Subsequently, some of the employers in Sarawak had contacted the State Labour Department to inquire about the matter.
