KUCHING: Six areas in Batang Rajang, Sungai Miri and Sungai Sarawak have been gazetted as “Anchorage Areas”.

In a press statement issued here yesterday, Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) said the six areas were Kampung Banyok and Tanjung Sadit at Batang Rajang (Sibu Anchorage Area); Kampung Barong and Sungai Tapang Besar Kuala Rajang (Tanjung Manis Anchorage Area), the stretch from Muara to Jambatan Piasau (Sungai Miri Anchorage Area); and Tanjung Sedap Fishery Anchorage Area.

These areas are designated for the unloading of timber, sawn timber, coal and other cargo.

They are also used by vessels to berth during bad weather or while waiting for the water to rise to a suitable level to facilitate maintenance, repair and other marine works.

SRB added that all parties were not permitted to carry out the aforementioned business outside of the gazetted areas.

“Users who land in the specified areas should notify SRB Controller or the authorised representative, of the quantity and type of cargo to be collected, time and date of arrival and departure of the vessel, maintenance, repair and other marine works to be implemented,” said the statement.
