KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has proven the effectiveness of its administration with opposition parties now showing interest in joining the coalition.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi credited this development to the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who emphasised unity as the main pillar of the state’s development.

“This may have encouraged opposition parties to abandon the opposition ideology completely and support GPS.

“They have a desire to help the Sarawak government achieve the desired goal but we leave it to the GPS Supreme Council to decide later,” he said.

He said this when asked by reporters regarding the proposed merger of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) after launching the PBB ‘Pergerakan Belia 1828’ Pantai Damai branch at a hotel here, Sunday (Aug 20).

On the merger, he said it is a good development in the political landscape in line with efforts to develop a united state.

According to him, Abang Johari has carried out various initiatives and that many more formulas will be implemented for the advancement of Sarawak.

“It is proven today that all the initiatives implemented are bearing fruit and can be seen from the increase in state revenue as announced by the World Bank recently,” he said.

Accordingly, he called on more youths to join the Pergerakan Belia 1828 to help develop society in various aspects.

“Through this movement as well, it will help hone leadership skills among the younger generation.

“In PBB, we want to produce more leaders of calibre for the continued development of the state,” he said.
