SIBU: Activities like the ‘Sukaneka Ria Merdeka 2023’ programme, organised here as part of the Independence Day celebration, help to bring communities together and nurture harmony among various ethnic groups.

Education and Innovation Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee stressed the importance of such programmes in showcasing the spirit of unity and shared responsibility within villages.

He hoped villages across the region would organise two to three events involving the various communities.

“These programmes need not necessarily have stalls or traditional folk games, but they should offer an opportunity for all members of the community, especially the youth, to contribute,” he said when officiating at the event held at Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku here yesterday (Aug 31).

The Nangka assemblyman commended the commitment displayed by participants and expressed enthusiasm for further promotion of similar programmes.

He noted that the community-driven nature of the programme, involving the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and various stakeholders, plays a significant role in fostering unity and harmony.
