KUCHING: The Open University Malaysia (OUM) Kuching Learning Centre is looking to expand its collaboration with various state government agencies and organisations in hopes of strengthening education.

Its director Hamimah Kipli stressed the significance of bridging the educational gap between urban and rural dwellers through its open and distance learning (ODL).

As such, she said, the partnership might open doors for rural residents and city dwellers alike to study at OUM and earn diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctor of philosophy degrees.

In remarks made at OUM’s appreciation ceremony, she expressed gratitude on behalf of OUM to the agencies, organisations, and strategic partners who frequently work with and support OUM.

“This event is not only to appreciate existing strategic partners but also as a platform for other agencies to collaborate with OUM Kuching.

“OUM Kuching welcomes participation from local agencies to improve their careers, management and staff development in addition to sponsoring their staff to continue their studies to a higher level at OUM,” she said.

Hamimah said this when officiating at the ceremony today.

Among the agencies present were the Sarawak Mosque Welfare Trust (LAKMNS); St Joseph International School; Sedidik Sarawak; Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Kuching; Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Kuching; Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd; Hidayah Centre Foundation Sarawak; CATS FM, Tahfiz Darussyafi Kuching and other media partners.

Hamimah noted that the agencies have sent officers and teachers to OUM to pursue early childhood education degrees or diplomas as well as post-graduate teacher training that is financed by their agencies and organisations.

Also, she added, there are officers or teachers from the agency that are a part of the collaboration who pay their own tuition but also get an institutional discount from OUM.

Hamimah also gave the respective agencies certificates of gratitude during the ceremony.
