MIRI: More than 100 volunteers from various government agencies and non-governmental organisations are expected to turn up for the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) beach cleaning programme on March 12.

Among them participating are Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, Miri Hakka Association Youth Section, Miri Tai Poo Association Youth Section, Miri Lau Clan Youth Section, Miri JCI, Riam JCI, Batu Niah Lions Club and Borneo Ghost Nets Hunter.

“The event will kick off at 7am at Marina Beach,” said NSJA president Andy Jong on Monday (Feb 13).
“It is aimed at creating awareness about the importance of keeping our beaches clean and unpolluted, especially from plastic waste.”

Jong added that Marina Beach was chosen for the programme because “it is a popular tourist attraction.”
Food and beverages will also be provided for the participants.
