Over 1,000 participate in Girl Guides Run

KUCHING: More than 1,000 participants joined the 2024 Girl Guides Run organised by the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (PPPM), Sarawak Branch on Sunday.

The run kick-off at around 6.30 am at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) compound here was flagged off by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who is also the patron of the Malaysian Girl Guides Sarawak Branch.

The event aimed to raise funds of RM200,000 to finance the annual activities of the Sarawak Girl Guides Association, such as training, skills, camping, and the maintenance of its building.

The run also aimed to collect fund to purchase additional equipment including laptops for the members to carry out activities and matters related to the management of PPPM Sarawak Branch.

Also present at the flagging off were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and the chairwoman of the PPPM Sarawak Branch, Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud.

The run with its slogan ‘Bersatu Ke Arah Masa Depan Yang Cemerlang dan Cerah’, was divided into categories with different running distances of 3 kilometres (km) and 5km.

Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to win 70 prizes worth a total of RM25,000 in a lucky draw event.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Mayor of MBKS Datuk Wee Hong Seng also attended the run.
