Over 200 attend Sarawak JKR safety workshop

KUCHING: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak through Coastal and Second Trunk Road (CSTR) together with Opus Consultants held a CSTR Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management Workshop from May 10 to 11 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here.

Over 200 people from the CSTR Project attended, including construction managers, site engineers, chief resident engineers, nominated inspector of work, contractor representatives, safety and health officers, site safety supervisors  and traffic management officers.

“The key objectives of the workshop are to bring all parties to the same table and discuss issues about HSE hence creating a sustainable way forward together.

“Moreover, this is a critical part of a continual improvement effort in a successful project delivery journey,” Sarawak JKR said on today.

The workshop facilitator team was headed by quality manager Ir Sim Hui Kheng and comprised officers from Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

“During the closing speech by Sarawak JKR director Datu Ir Zuraimi Sabki, he stated that everyone must comprehend the entire context of risks and safety by accepting responsibility and claiming ownership of HSE in order to build a safe working environment.”

Zuraimi also mentioned that Coastal Road and Second Trunk Unit (CSTRU) with the help of Project Management Consultant (PMC) led the establishment of a safety management framework for the project in order to improve the Strategy on Incident Management and Ensure Compliance.

“When it comes to safety, there are no compromises. Despite all these obstacles, we continue to strive for excellence.”

Zuraimi also presented certificates to the CSTR Project contractors, who achieved Gold Band on the CSTR HSE Performance Matrix.
