LIMBANG: Batu Danau and Bukit Kota in Limbang will remain the stronghold of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming 12th state election, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Addressing nearly 5,000 people at the launch of GPS Zone 15B (Batu Danau and Bukit Kota, Limbang), Abang Johari pointed out that the strong support given by the people from these two constituencies in past elections showed that Sarawak government could still count on them.

The launching ceremony was held at Limbang District office’s parking lot.

“The words batu (stone) and bukit (hills), in Chinese geomancy or feng shui mean ‘strong’ or ‘powerfully built’…the name itself reflects that these two constituencies are strong and will be our strongholds for Limbang,” he remarked.

Abang Johari assured that the GPS government was committed to developing these two districts.

“The development projects implemented under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) would help to create positive impact on the people in Limbang and Lawas,” he said.

The state government has allocated RM1.5 billion to the agency to implement all its projects within a two-year time frame.

“We have a masterplan to ensure the projects commenced smoothly. Unlike the opposition, when we promise something for sure we will deliver it to the people, we are not buruk siku,” Abang Johari said.

Abang Johari urged people in the two districts to rally behind GPS and their components parties to ensure a landslide win in the coming state election, clearly hinting that the 12th state polls is around the corner.

“We are approaching election time,” he said, although he has remained tight-lipped on its actual date.

Also present during the launch were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Assistant Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman cum the event’s organising chairman; Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang; Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting; and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy president Majang Renggie.
