KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a more than 900 per cent increase in visitor arrivals from January to November this year, compared to the same period last year.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor stated that the state received more than 1.6 million visitors, surpassing the board’s target of 1.2 million visitors for 2022.

“From January to November 2022, Sarawak has already recorded RM3.87 billion in tourism receipts compared to RM537.17 million for the 2021.

“This is certainly a strong indication that Sarawak tourism is undergoing a healthy recovery stage as we prepare for 2023,” she said.

She said this in her welcoming remarks during the STB Media Night at the Waterfront Hotel here last night (Dec 22).

As such, she said the board worked hard this year on reshaping and recovering the tourism industry.

Sharzede noted that with the media fraternity’s continuous support, STB’s message was delivered to a wider audience, ensuring that Sarawak stays top of mind.

“In terms of digital outreach, as of November 2022, we have accumulated over 361,760 followers across all STB’s digital platforms and attracted over 404,000 web visitors,” she said.

Having said that, Sharzede pointed out that the board will have more exciting initiatives to take place in 2023.

“And we sincerely appreciate your help in spreading awareness of our eco-tourism products around the globe,” she added.
