LUNDU: The Sarawak police have seized a total of RM128,790,159.63 worth of drugs in the first nine months in 2023.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the police also made 7,557 arrests compared to 6,335 arrests made during the same period in 2022.
In addition to that, Mohd Azman revealed that a total of RM128,790,159.63 worth of drugs have been seized compared to RM9,348,564.50 during the same period last year.
He also said in Lundu so far this year, police have arrested 92 drug offenders and seized around RM5,516.00 worth of drugs.
Therefore, Mohd Azman urged the community leaders present to continue to be the eyes and ears to eradicate criminal activities here.
“We need to work together especially from all strata of society and beef up efforts to combat drug related activities,” he said in his speech after attending the Sarawak Contingent Town Hall Session Year 2023 at Lundu Community Hall today (Oct 7).
He added that the Sarawak police would like to see the local community here free from drugs.
“I believe we can succeed in our efforts to combat and reduce the drug problem in Lundu,” he said.
Separately, Mohd Azman also issued a reminder to the community leaders present to be aware of scam tactics and to not fall for macau scams, non-existent investment scams or any online scams.
“There are those that are easily tricked and it doesn’t matter if you’re working, retired and whether you’re a successful woman, or part of an elite group and a university student.
“We are all potential victims of scams through online transactions. As the Sarawak Police Commissioner, I hope everyone can play a part to curb this ongoing issue,” he added.
He urged the community leaders present to inform the communities of what was discussed at the session, especially drug related crimes.
Among those present at the event were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Sarawak Crime Prevention and Community Safety chief SAC Lukas Aket, Sarawak NCID chief ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, and Lundu district officer, Gustian Durani.
