Overwhelming response to blood donation drive in Sibu

SIBU: The blood donation campaign, which was held in conjunction with the 60 Years of Sarawak Independence Celebration at the Sibu Indoor Stadium here today (June 17), received a positive response from the public.


The two-day programme, which starts from 8am until 4pm, is jointly organised by the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) Sibu Division, Sibu Hospital Visitor Board, and Syariah Court.
 
Present at the event was MAKSAK Sarawak women chairperson Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang, who is also the State Secretary’s wife.
 
Her arrival was welcomed by Sibu Resident Wong Hie Sieng and Sibu Hospital Visitor Board deputy chairman Awang Mohammed Nizam Awang Ali Borhan.
 
When met at the programme, Mohammed Nizam, who is also the Sibu Resident’s Office administrative officer, said they (MAKSAK) planned to host blood donation events for the Sibu division three times per year.
 
In addition to the blood donation campaign, the public is welcome to participate in free health screenings.
 
Meanwhile, the 60 Years Sarawak Independence Celebration, which runs from June 16 to 18, at the Sibu Indoor Stadium features various activities, including a digital exhibition, Sibu Kitchen, aerobic exercises, ‘Walk-A-Mile,’ zumba, colouring contests for preschool and kindergarten children, martial arts performances, archery competitions, e-sports, and a fun ride.
 
The launching ceremony, which will take place tomorrow (June 18) at 9am, will be the main highlight of the event.
