KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 300 companies have applied for the tender for Package 1B Phase One of the Pan Borneo Highway project involving 15 work packages, said Deputy Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said that the pre-qualification process for the tender had just been closed, with another month to  shortlist the companies before they are brought to the tender board.

“The tender for 15 Phase 1B packages is not only for Sabah contractors but for all Malaysians and will not be open to foreign contractors.

“We need to make sure they meet three conditions, namely how much work they have in hand, their experience and financial strength,” he said during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Ahmad said the government will also take strict action, including terminating the contract of companies that failed to complete the given project within the stipulated period.

So far, the work progress of Package 1A of the Pan Borneo Highway project is 88 per cent, with all the contractors from Sabah, he said.
