KUCHING: Paper crafting for some is a hobby or a way to make money but crafting for a charitable purpose is a commendable approach that allows the crafters to contribute meaningfully to the communities.

For retiree Isabel Lee, paper crafting is a hobby and a way of helping non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to raise funds.

During the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) Annual Charity Food Fair held at the Association of Churches Sarawak’s (ACS) Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre here at Jalan Stampin here yesterday, Lee showcased her unique and beautiful paper crafts. She was selling them to support the association.

“This is the seventh year I am participating in the charity food fair and I am happy to be able to contribute to the association in my own small way,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.

The 63-year-old mother of two also said all proceeds from the sales of her paper crafts would be channelled to KAA.

“Prior to this, I was invited by KAA to teach the autism trainer on the techniques of paper crafting for a year,” she said.

After retiring from her career as a pharmacy assistant, Lee continued her passion for paper crafting.

“I do not intend to turn this hobby into a business,” she said.

Lee said she had a special craft set and tools to cut paper into flowers, heart shapes, alphabets and many more.

“There are a lot of ideas from Pinterest and YouTube, and I find ideas from these platforms while also creating my own,” she said.

Lee added often she would start paper crafting in the evening after completing her household chores.

“Paper crafting is a very good therapy and that is why I always encourage children to do paper crafts,” she said.
