KUCHING: DAP Batu Kitang Protem Branch chairman Abdul Aziz Isa, who represented Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen, yesterday presented a cheque worth RM100,000 to SK Garland Headmaster Elvan Kim Lai.

The handing over was witnessed by Sim Kiat Leng, special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen and his (Chong’s) personal assistant Brandon Lee Pak Fook.

The 119-year-old SK Garland was built in 1899. It is located next to St Basil’s Church under the Batu Kitang state constituency. It is a privately-owned primary school and managed by the School Management Board (LPS) under the administration of St Thomas’ Cathedral. This school has a total of 428 students.

In November last year, Aziz said he went to SK Garland to attend to their problem regarding a long overdue dilapidated building that needed urgent attention and financial assistance from the federal government.

Among the problems were damaged window structures caused by termites and roof structural damage caused by sedimentation.
