Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar

KUCHING: The good ties it enjoys with the federal government have made Sarawak the best performing state in Covid-19 vaccinations, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister also applauded Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his Cabinet team for steering the state out of phase one of the National Recovery Plan.

“The state now has vaccinated 1,383,493 or 49.1 percent of its population with their first dose while 520,592 or 18.5 percent had completed their second dose.

“In addition, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) under Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas have also been doing a very good job in controlling the spike in the Covid-19 cases, planning the vaccination as well as distributing assistance to every nook and crook of our vast state,” he said.

Wan Junaidi also commended the people’s representatives from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for supervising and arranging the opening of vaccination centres in their respective constituencies.

“With its good performance, Sarawak will now commence phase two of the National Recovery Plan by allowing some industries other than essential services and supplies to open.

“People from informal, micro, small and medium businesses will be able to earn their living as these groups are the ones who are badly affected by the movement control order (MCO).

“Without savings, without insurance and other safety nets, it is difficult to survive.

“Even though the government provided food on the table as well as assistance, how long must these go on?” he questioned.

Wan Junaidi pointed out the state government’s success in bringing down the Covid-19 cases was a great gift to the people and businesses alike.

“Well done, GPS and its assemblymen for doing a fantastic job,” he added.
