KUCHING : Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing retained his post as the president of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) during the party’s Supreme Council meeting last Sunday.
Newly appointed secretary general of the party Datuk Nelson Balang Rining stated this at a press conference held at the PDP headquarters here yesterday.
Nelson said Tiong won the post uncontested.
“When the nomination process closed, only Tiong’s name was received,” he clarified.
Nelson added it was unanimously agreed at the meeting that there would be no contests for the party’s senior positions, namely, the president post, deputy president post, two senior vice president posts and three vice president posts.
‘As the secretary general, I wish to make these statements here to dismiss any misconceptions that party members or members of the public might have of the president’s alleged statement on Sunday.“The ordinary Supreme Council posts will be open for contest.“This was the collective and unanimous decision of the Supreme Council members,” stressed Nelson.’
He pointed out that several local newspapers had reported wrongly on the proceeding of the Supreme Council meeting.
According to Nelson, one newspaper had erroneously reported that senior positions in PDP were not open for contest while another made certain “misleading statements” on several posts in the party.
“As the secretary general, I wish to make these statements here to dismiss any misconceptions that party members or members of the public might have of the president’s alleged statement on Sunday,” added Nelson.
