MIRI: A man was detained after he was believed to be involved in the break-in of an eatery at Permyjaya here on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old man was arrested at RPR Batu 6 by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lutong Police Station at about 1pm yesterday.

Police also seized a unit of cash register machine belonging to the premises.

According to sources, the incident was discovered by the shop owner at about 6am when he wanted to start business operation when finding out the front door of the premises was opened.

“Inspection by the owner of the premises found that cash register machine containing coins of about RM50 placed at the counter was missing,” he said.

He said images recorded by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance found that there was an individual wearing a mask and the gloves running away with the cash register machine.

Following the incident, the owner of the premises lodged a report at the nearby police station for further action.
