KUCHING: The third phase of Batu Kawa Riverbank Park here is now open to the public, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim who is also the Batu Kawah assemblyman, said that the phase 3 is finally open to public after the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) as the implementing agency has completed its final inspection with the contractor.

“This phase 3 is located between Phase 1 Batu Kawa Sky Window and Phase 4 Children Playgrounds.

“Phase 3 is mainly for teenagers with five games facilities namely petanque court, pickle ball court, skateboarding, basketball court and table tennis,” he said in a post on his Facebook page, recently.

He also said that at the Batu Kawa Riverbank Park, there is something for everyone in the family, irrespective of age, from children to senior citizens.

“For phase 1, we have the Batu Kawa Sky Window for adults to climb the eight-storey of staircase, Phase 2 (the walks for the senior citizens), Phase 3 (five games for the teenagers) and Phase 4 (children playground),” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim said the park has another two remaining projects namely the glass bridge connecting Phase 4 (children playground) to Kpg Rantau Panjang which is pending for open tender and Phase 2 of Kampung Rantau Panjang riverbank protection.

“Thanks for the successful contractors of the different phases and implementing agencies of MPP and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak with fundings from Sarawak and federal government agencies that manage to complete different phases since 2018 despite the COVID-19 situation.

“Please enjoy but don’t forget to help to look after the facilities and do also visit the waterfronts of Kampung Rantau Panjang and Kampung Sinar Budi Lama (opposite side of river),” said Dr Sim.
