KUCHING: Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd in cooperation with Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) recently carried out a recycling awareness refresher talk for about 250 students of SJK Chung Hua Pangkalan Baru.

The event was part of the school’s annual solid waste education and segregation programme activities which is entering its third year.

With the talk, the students learned about the detrimental impacts of poor management of solid waste, including habitual littering and indiscriminate dumping towards the environment and human health.

Students also had the opportunity to understand the waste management process carried out by Trienekens including the best recycling practices and how it can help reduce waste pollution in the long term.

“Equipping students with the right knowledge and skills in managing waste properly, including recycling, is essential in shaping their behaviours and attitudes towards waste and the environment,” said Trienekens (Sarawak) group senior manager (Corporate Affairs) Katherine Kong in a media statement.

“We are pleased to work together with the school again this year and continue to help lay the necessary foundation for better environmental awareness and practices among school students,” she added.

The annual collaboration focuses on motivating and empowering the students to discard their waste appropriately by separating them from the point of generation. Following from the talk, the company will also organise several environment-themed activities such as Amazing Green Race game, inter-class most collected recyclables contest, colouring, poster design and eco-fashion competitions as well as other green initiatives for the school.

The solid waste segregation programme is also part of Trienekens’ on-going CSR mission and efforts to educate and instil environmental awareness among school students and the general public.
