KUCHING: A new road and extended car parks will be built to facilitate the tenants of the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) Taman Dahlia here.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the tenants currently only have access to a narrow road and a temporary one for them to get in and out of the PPR.

“The issue now is that the contractor is planning to close down the temporary road that they are using, therefore, we have come up with two solutions, namely a temporary and permanent solution, that will solve the issue.

“We will build a temporary road here while also getting approval from the State Planning Authority (SPA) for this road to be legal and permanent.

“We will build the road immediately before the old temporary road is closed. I don’t know how long the approval from the SPA will take but at least the road users will be able to use this road instead of the narrow one,” he said.

He said this to the media during his visit to PPR Taman Dahlia, Batu 5, Jln Matang here on Tuesday (Sept 5).

He said an overtaking lane will be built on the narrow road so as not to block cars going through.

According to Dr Sim, the said PPR has 817 units but only 400 parking spaces are provided for the tenants.

“It is inevitable that some cars will park at the roadside. That is why, this will be our temporary measure.

“In line with this, we will expand the parking space for the tenants behind the surau here so that people would not need to park at the roadside anymore,” he said.

He pointed out that if people were to continue to park by the roadside, vehicles such as firetrucks and ambulances would have a hard time going through.

“I hope that this temporary solution will be approved by the SPA as soon as possible so that it can become our permanent solution,” he said.
