PM Anwar arrives for global forum

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail arrived in Kuching today to attend the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF) 2023. 

His arrival at around 6pm at the Kuching International Airport was welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. 

Also present to welcome the Prime Minister and wife were Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata. 

Anwar is scheduled to officiate the GMBF 2023 gala dinner tonight at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). 

Also scheduled to attend are the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin representing President Joko Widodo and Abang Johari.

Earlier, Ma’ruf with his wife, Wury Ma’ruf Amin and the Indonesian delegation arrived in Kuching at 1pm.

The GMBF 2023, themed ‘Innovation and Transformation in the Islamic Economy,’ is being held over three days, from Nov 28 to 30, at BCCK.

This forum is set to host representatives from 37 countries, with an estimated 1,000 participants, including prominent global leaders.

Among the forum’s goals is to bring the Islamic world closer together by establishing stronger relationship and partnerships, especially in the Middle East, Asia and the rest of the world.

Additionally, this forum serves as an ideal platform for connecting the Muslim world with the non-Muslim community.

GMBF 2023 will feature keynote speeches by Muslim world leaders, plenary sessions, workshops, awards ceremonies and gala dinner.
