SEBUYAU: A police headquarters will be established here after Sebuyau has been elevated to a full district.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would strive to establish a district police headquarters here.

As for a fire station, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Local Government Development, he said he would endeavour to establish one here as well.

“It (fire station) might be small, but the important thing is to have vehicles or trucks carrying water because we do not want the Sebuyau area and its surrounding areas to be affected in the event of a fire.

“I don’t want the people in the rural areas to suffer from fires that destroy properties,” he said at the Program Santuni Rakyat held at SK Haji Bujang, Sebangan here, yesterday (Sept 17).

Earlier in his speech, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication cum Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Julaihi Narawi said there is an urgent need for a police station and fire station to be set up in his constituency.

On developing the local economy, Zahid said Sebuyau should emulate his Bagan Datuk constituency in terms of coconut cultivation.

He said the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development had offered a coconut replanting scheme using the latest and best coconut seeds.

“I suggest planting ‘matag’ coconuts where the coconut seeds are produced through tissue culture.

“So I want to encourage the people in Sebuyau to follow the people of Bagan Datuk in replanting coconuts so that the people here become successful smallholders.

“I will assist and inform the company, United Plantations, to supply these coconut seeds at a fair price,” he said.

Also present at the programme Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) Datuk Rubiah Wang; Deputy Minister of Energy and Energy Sustainability Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni; Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli; KKDW secretary-general Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun; and Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.
