Police hunting down third suspect in armed gang robbery case

KUCHING: Police here have arrested two local men for alleged involvement in an armed gang robbery at Stutong area last week.

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said they had received a police report around 10.30am on Sunday (Oct 9) pertaining to the incident.

It was reported that three men, whose modus operandi was pretending to be customers, had robbed a premises that sells ceramic goods and products from China, thus causing losses amounting to RM10,000.

“Following the police report, a special police team was mobilised to track down the suspects.

“On Monday (Oct 10), the police arrested two male suspects aged 20 and 46, and seized a vehicle and the attires used in the crime.

“Investigation found that both the suspects had four past records related to drugs and commercial crime,” he said.

Ahsmon added that the last suspect is still at large and efforts are still undergoing to locate him.

Both suspects are currently being remanded for seven days until Oct 17, to facilitate investigations under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

If convicted for armed gang robbery, the suspects may face a jail sentence for a term up to 20 years and shall also be whipped with the rotan.
