Police on lookout for cheating suspects

KAPIT: The police have begun investigation based on information gathered from the CCTV involving two male suspects who were involved in scamming their victims at ATM machines.

In the past weeks Kapit police have received five reports on money being stolen from victims via the ATM. The total amount stolen from the victims was estimated to be around RM5,000.

Based on the CCTV image, the two suspects would wear hats each time they committed the crime to steal money from ATM users.

Their modus operandi is they identify their quarry, approach them saying that they were staff of the Social Welfare Department to help those eligible to apply for “Bantuan Sara Hidup”. Pretending to fill the application forms, they also demanded for personal particulars and bank accounts. 

The police here are warning the public to watch out and should they come across the suspects or any information, they could contact the officer-in-charge of the commercial crime Inspector Low Xi Hua at 013-4561351.
