STAMPING OUT GANGSTERISM

KUCHING: Datuk Richard Wee, chairman of Board of Management for Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, 3 and 4, has commended the police for taking a more proactive role in stamping out the issue of gangsterism and school bullying throughout Malaysia.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador had said that he and his team were on a mission to clean up gangsterism culture in Malaysia, including at the school level.

Abdul Hamid said that any individual who claimed to be a gangster would be arrested and taken action against under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

When contacted last Saturday, Wee said that school bullying is a problem for all schools, with the issue being dealt with in different approaches and manners.

“With the support and attention given by the police, it will definitely assist the schools to better handle this issue as the schools, principals, and teachers will know that they have the support of the authorities.

“The rules and regulation of the schools and the law of the land will be used against those students,” he said.

He said that based on their experience with schools under their management, there had seen isolated bullying cases over the years.

“However, we have been able to resolve such incidents involving our students in accordance with the rules and regulation of our schools,” he said.

Wee added that if the issue involved outsiders, then the police and authorities concerned would be referred to.
