KUCHING: Popular Indonesian Islamic preacher Ustaz Abdul Somad Batubara will be coming to Kuching on Sept 30.

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha announced that on the said date, Abdul Somad will give a talk during the Muslimah programme at the Islamic Complex Hall Kuching from 9 am to 12 pm.

“It will be open for all so we are expecting around 2,000 people as it is free entry.

“Following that, on that night, he will also give a talk at Masjid Jamek Sarawak from 6.30 pm to 11 pm under the Tabligh Akbar programme,” he said.

He said this during an exclusive interview at the MIS Office, at Majma’ Mall, here on Tuesday (Aug 15).

On Oct 1, he added, Abdul Somad will continue his programme at Masjid Al-Abyad, Matang Jaya from 5 am to 7am.

“Aside from that, he will also give a talk at Puncak Borneo Prison Complex from 9am to 11am on the same day.

“This will be followed by another talk by him at Dataran Kawad Muara Tuang Camp at 6.30pm to 11pm.

“Meanwhile, on his last day in Kuching which is on Oct 2, he is scheduled to give a talk at Majlis Ikhwanul Islam, Taman Sukma from 5am to 7am,” he said.

Given the popularity of the preacher, Misnu expressed hope the public will grab the chance and attend the talk.

On another matter, he also disclosed MIS’ plans for this year’s Maulidurasul celebration.

“On Sept 28, we will have a Thanksgiving prayer in conjunction with the celebration.

“And on the following day, we will have a parade at Padang Merdeka where 250 contingents from various agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), villages, and many others will be participating.

“The scale of the programme on that day will be similar to the parade that we had during the Sarawak Day,” he said.
