KUCHING: A comprehensive assessment will be conducted on residents who have suffered property losses as a result of extensive flooding.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that related authorities such as the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will conduct a postmortem once the flood situation subsides.

“The postmortem will not only include our level of efficiency of assisting the victims during the flood incident, but also some of the issues presented by the victims.

“That being said, I could not specify the actions to be taken on affected individuals as it requires further discussion together with the SDMC,” she said when met by reporters after attending the Ministry’s Excellence Service Awards (APC) at a hotel here last night (Feb 16).

Fatimah added that the assessment will be ongoing as flood situations can vary each year.

She also mentioned the preparations made for the current flood since last year, stating that meetings were held with authorities such as the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to coordinate workforce and resources.

“From our Ministry, we have made preparations in terms of providing food and other aid such as sleeping gears to the victims.

“It is a team effort, which is led by the SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and each department/agency has been asked to present a report on preparations that will be done when faced with this type of situation,” she added.
