SRI AMAN: As the present world is full of competition, education is the key to developing children’s interests, said Pencils Project Association patron Norina Umoi Utot.

She said that it was undeniable that today’s educational world is full of challenges especially when it comes to competing globally.

“The education field requires proper attention, especially from parents to produce excellent future generations and can lead the country in the future.

“Do not disregard the children’s education. Parents here are advised not to ignore their children’s education by making poverty a cause,” said Norina at a Gawai celebration at Rumah Musit, Melikin Sungai Gudom near here yesterday.

She added that the association’s existence since 2015 has opened the eyes of parents that children’s education should not be taken lightly.

“For the past four years I have been championing the Pencils Project Association around Sri Aman, hoping to give hope and encouragement to children and parents to raise the awareness of children’s education in the interior and to ease the burden of low and middle incomes families.

“Not only do we donate stationeries to children, the association also gives incentives to students in Sri Aman,” she said.

Norina also explained that the association also conducts English language tuition classes and no fees are charged, while classes are held four times a month on Saturdays and Sundays.

Not only that, the association also focuses on adults and senior citizens in the effort to produce literate generations.

“The Pencils Project Association has now taken steps to hold the Adult Class of 2019 in two selected villages, Kampung Sepan and Kampung Melikin Sungai Gudom, Balai Ringin, which has seen 20 people aged 40 to 80 attending the class,” she said.

Norina added that the effort to organise the class was a continuation of the previous project which focused on children.

“The association will not stop the efforts to improve the lives of the people here and will extend the programme to other areas in Sri Aman.”
