PPMW5, Polair-Kalbar forge stronger ties to combat maritime border crimes

KUCHING: The Sarawak Marine Police Force Region 5 (PPMW5) together with Polair-Kalbar Indonesia took part in a Rendezvous (RV) programme to strengthen the relationship between the two sides.

The programme was held at the Tanjung Datu maritime border on Monday (Sept 25).

Heading the PPMW5 Sarawak contingent was its commander, ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, along with 24 officers and members.

Meanwhile, Polair-Kalbar was represented by Kasubdit Patroli Airud, Kompol Rizal Satria F, S.I.K, M.H., along with 19 officers and non-commissioned officers.

In the programme, both sides agreed to collaborate to address various crimes at the maritime border.

These included tackling drug smuggling, combatting fishing encroachments between Malaysia and Indonesia, addressing the issue of illegal immigrants entering both countries, combatting contraband smuggling, and other offences at the maritime border.

In addition, the two sides also deliberated on the planning of joint patrols and bilateral patrols along the Sarawak and Kalimantan maritime borders, as well as sharing information related to crimes in these maritime borders.

PPMW5 expressed its belief in the continued viability of the RV programme in the future, emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure safer waters and enhanced cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
