KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has refuted claims that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) granted the ‘green light’ for Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) to join Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

“I am not sure where they received the green light from but it was not from GPS because we haven’t had our meeting yet,” he said in response to PSB President Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh who stated that the party was greenlit to join PDP from its ‘higher-ups’.

He said this when met by the media after attending the Bishop of Kuching’s Christmas Open House at St Thomas’s Cathedral Parish Hall, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg Kuching here today (Dec 25).

Following this, he pointed out that for PSB to join PDP, they need to consult with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“One of the parties needs to be dissolved. There is no such thing as merging two parties.

“Only after dissolution will the party be able to join the other party because with that, there will not be party affiliation,” he said.

For the record, PSB deputy president Johnical Rayong Ngipa recently announced that PSB is expected to be dissolved before Chinese New Year and its members are to join PDP en bloc.

According to him, this move follows the ‘green light’ for joining PDP.
