Premier to launch S’wak Independence celebration in Lawas

KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Johari Tun Openg will launch the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence celebration at Lawas Public Park on May 28.

Various activities are being organised to enliven the festivities, including the Sarawak Independence expedition convoy, which will be flagged off by the Premier at 10 am. The convoy will consist of 40 vehicles and 120 super bikes.

The celebration will also feature entrepreneurship and digital exhibition, where goods, food, crafts, and other items will be showcased.

Among the highlights is the ‘youth got skill’ programme, which offers hair cutting services.

Adding to the excitement, there will be a Sarawak X-tive mega aerobics which will be participated by 400 individuals.

Additionally, a Fun Ride Sarawak X-tive will take place at Tebingan Lawas, involving 300 participants.

The event will also host the Sarawak X-tive Petanque Tournament at Lawas Indoor Stadium, with the participation of 300 people.

All three Sarawak X-tive programmes will kick off simultaneously at 8 am.

In the afternoon, the Premier is expected to perform the ground-breaking ceremony for the Lepapa Hypermarket & Hotel Roxy at Jalan Merapok, Lawas.

Meanwhile, on May 27, the Premier will chair the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting at Hotel Seri Malaysia, Lawas.

He will also visit the proposed construction sites of the New Lawas Bridge, Lawas Hospital and the Lawas Integrated Administrative Centre.

In the evening, Abang Johari will attend a community dinner at Lawas Indoor Stadium.
