KUCHING: Sarawak Energy notes the recent decision of the Kuching Sessions Court involving a customer of its retail and operation subsidiary Syarikat Sesco Berhad.

The case involved a disputed arrears bill that was issued following a meter inspection at the customer’s home in 2011. The matter was filed in court in December 2014, and judgement was made on 3 May this year in favour of the customer.

While it is not the practice to comment on individual court cases, the details of the decision was the subject of a media statement by the plaintiff’s lawyer who has called into question the method of calculation of arrears in billing.

Sesco’s calculation methods for disputed amounts are made in compliance with the Electricity Ordinance with the opportunity for customers to appeal through an Appeal Committee beforehand.

Our legal team is studying the grounds of the judgement to determine our next course of action.
