KUCHING: More private hospitals are now equipped with better facilities to take care of their patients’ wellbeing.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said, “A lot of hospitals are now equipped with better facilities and have progressed from the old days of using shophouses as their premises.

“I am looking forward to the new KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital (KPJ Kuching) facilities which will hopefully be open to the public by March next year,” he said.

He was speaking in a press conference yesterday after flagging off a 3km and 7km run in the third edition of KPJ Cancer Awareness Bubble Rush 2019 at the new KPJ Kuching here at BDC.

He said that the new hospital now has dedicated facilities which are specialised services, making it not easy to manage as specialist doctors and engineers are needed.

“For example, the air flow needs to be taken care of by engineers to prevent the spread of germs which may affect patients’ health.

“Healthcare is never cheap. Therefore, in order to avoid paying too much, the public should look after their own health,” he advised.

Dr Sim added that some health issues are due to unhealthy lifestyle. Using heart issues as an example, he said they could be attributed to smoking and lack of exercise.

“People often say they do not have time to exercise. I believe they can incorporate exercise into their daily routine, such as using the staircase instead of the elevator,” he said.
