LAWAS: The ongoing project to connect Lawas and Limbang to the main electricity grid from Miri under the Northern Agenda Extension is progressing.

According to Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Julaihi Narawi, the work is expected to be completed by 2025.

“This morning, I had the opportunity make a working visit to the Kota 2 Mini Hydropower site, which started operating in 2020 and was built at a cost of RM120mil.

“This mini hydro generates 10.5 Mega Watts (MW) of electricity, and the electricity it generates is connected to the Lawas electricity grid.”

In a Facebook post on Friday (May 26), Julaihi mentioned that with this new source of electricity, Lawas would have its electricity needs met without relying on generator sources.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Sarawak Energy (SEB) chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili were also present during the visit.
