KUCHING: A transformation project in Serian could draw more visitors to the district, marking it as a tourism hub in Sarawak.

Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong said the development and progress in Serian would benefit the socio-economic development of the local community.

“The Serian District Council (SDC) should re-evaluate the development surrounding Tasik Danu to transform the place into a tourism spot,” he said during the closing ceremony of Pesta Tasik Danu Serian held at Tasik Danu yesterday.

He added that the transformation project would be initiated after the Tasik Danu Serian Festival and that the facility should be able to draw visitors to spend a few nights in Serian.

“Sarawak’s unique culture could be among the attractions for visitors or tourists alike here and should be implemented during the next Pesta Tasik Danu Serian.

“I am sure we could attract tourists here such as cultural shows and more in the next festival,” he said.

Manyin also stressed the importance of international participants in the next Serian International Remote Control Carnival. This year, the carnival was included in Pesta Tasik Danu Serian.

“Foreign participants in the Serian festivals are of utmost importance. Participants from all over the world should be invited to these festivals,” he added.

During the function, Manyin also presented the champion’s trophy to the overall winner of the Serian International Remote Control Carnival from Kuching.
