KUCHING: Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi has urged the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to promote food and agro-tourism in her constituency.

She said this would be in line with the planning and direction of the country’s agro-food policy 2021 to 2030.

“The Sarawak government has recognised Sri Aman as a food basket or ‘agriculture hub’ because the land area is fertile where various types of crops can be grown and developed such as rice, maize, ‘rambutan’, ‘dabai’ and so on.

“It can attract private investors to cultivate land in the Sri Aman area to increase the production of agro-food products,” she said when debating the King’s address in current session of Parliament.

She added that Sri Aman could be developed as a modern agricultural area in line with the objective of strengthening the agricultural infrastructure in Sarawak, especially in Sri Aman Division.

In this regard, she suggested that the Ministry of Higher Education establish higher education institutions such as a university or agricultural-based industrial training institution in her constituency.
