KUCHING: The Sarawak Kenyah National Association (PKKS) and Peng Leto Kenyah Sarawak have been urged to continue to promote Kenyah’s unique culture, food, and handicraft.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting said he was glad to see the associations organising the Food & Handicraft Bazaar featuring Kenyah culture here.

“With more than 31 ethnic groups in Sarawak, it is very good to see them promoting their unique culture to the public.

“We should also encourage and support these events, as it is good for the tourism industry and to promote our unique local culture to higher levels,” he said during the closing ceremony of the bazaar at Telang Usan Hotel here yesterday.

At the same time, he also expressed hopes for such events to be held at a bigger scale and at a larger venue that could accommodate more audience.

“For the moment, these events are targeting locals, but I think eventually we would like to expand our exposure.

“These events are also in line with the five pillars listed by the state tourism which are culture, adventure, nature, food, and festival (CANFF), which we have here today,” he added.

Meanwhile, there were twelve stalls at the Food & Handicraft Bazaar 2023, featuring the Kenyah’s unique food and handicrafts.

According to the president of PKKS Sarawak Catherina Tipong, the event was to enable the Kenyah women community to raise funds and sustain the association.

It is also hoped that the event will become an annual tradition to foster closer relationships among the community by engaging them in this bazaar.
