SIBU: Former Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh expressed sadness that the party he founded had to be dissolved.

The new Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) senior vice-president said PSB leaders and members have chosen PDP as their new home and that their old party has become history.

“But we are happy to have chosen a new home which is PDP. We are happy with our decision,” he said in his speech at a welcoming party for former PSB leader and member to join PDP here tonight (April 6).

Wong added that Sarawak is now undergoing significant transformation under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, recognising his far-sighted vision to create a high-income society and ensure Sarawak becomes a developed state by 2030.

He said that PSB also recognised that at this crucial stage of development, political unity and stability are two very important elements in forging the development of the state forward.

“To demonstrate our sincerity and commitment, we joined hands with PDP in this united big family, giving full support to the state government under Abang Johari, particularly in his efforts to put our state development and our state economy in a different paradigm.

“Since our Premier has provided a visionary and progressive leadership, we should join hands together to strive for the shared visions with the Premier to achieve the common goals for a common good,” he added.

Wong said with the combined forces of the two parties – PDP and the now-dissolved PSB, – they will be working closely together and use their combined resources and common spirit to strive for their common goals.

According to Wong, PSB was advised by Registrar of Societies (ROS) to hold their Special Delegates Conference on February 1.

“We met on March 11 and we received the desolation letter’s approval on March 19. PDP has since accepted PSB members en bloc into the party,” he added.
