KUCHING: The caretaker government needs to declare a public holiday in the event that the 15th General Election (#GE15) is held on a weekday.

In stating this, Sarawak Patriot Association (SPA) chairman Datuk Dr Lau Pang Heng said a public holiday would enable all voters to cast their votes on polling day.

“Let us utilise our votes once every five years to choose our preferred candidates to represent us in parliament.

“Nevertheless, as chairman of a non-governmental organisaion (NGO), I will encourage my staff and association members to vote on polling day,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune today.

Besides hoping that Sarawak would have good weather on polling day, he also prayed that Sarawakians would vote for those who were clean, accountable and transparent for the sake of the new federal government.

“Let us not be induced by goodies that are going to be announced by every political party. We need to make our own independent decisions.

“For us in Sarawak, we need to vote for those who can redeem our lost rights and privileges as stated in our Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“In addition, whoever form the next federal government also need to bring down the high foreign exchange rate as currently the foreign exchange rate between Malaysian Ringgit and US Dollars is at the highest,” he said.

“With the dissolution of the parliament, every Malaysian is gearing up to elect a new team of MPs.

“GE15 is going to be the mother of all general elections as many candidates were either in the government once before or currently they are holding positions.

“Let us not be deterred by those who promise to address social issues after they are elected to office,” added Lau.
