KUCHING: Members of the public are strongly urged not to be easily fooled by phone calls claiming that they are involved in criminal cases.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata assured that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would never contact the actual suspect or the public via phone and inform them that they had committed a crime.

“This scam syndicate would allege that the victims are involved in criminal cases such as drugs, money laundering and others, and tell them that the case can be resolved through certain officials.

“I insist that the police will not inform anyone over the phone that they have committed a criminal offence. If there is, we will call them to the station to gather evidence or we will arrest the suspect,” he said at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) on Monday (April 30).

Earlier, Comm Mancha officiated the handover ceremony for district police chief duties for Padawan, Matu Daro and Serian districts at the Senior Officer’s Mess.
