KUCHING: Reciting the Quran has helped young Siti Asma Adenan cope with her studies.

The 15-year-old from SMKA Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab is one of the participants in the state-level Quran recital competition here.

Siti Asma is determined to do her best.

“I’m glad to have been chosen to represent my school. Preparing (for the competition) was quite difficult for me.

“But alhamdulillah (all praise to Allah), when I was on stage just now, I was able to deliver (the verses) well,” she said today.

Ahmad has been involved in Quran recital competitions since he was six years old.

The male participant for the memorisation category, Ahmad Yasin Juanda, said he had been taking part in such competitions since he was at a tender age of six.

“I’m always keen to take part,” said the 15-year-old, who is from the same school as Siti.

Both expressed hope that their Muslim peers would support the event and take part in future competitions.

The competition began on Monday and runs until Thursday.
