KUCHING: The official date of when Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli will be coming to Sarawak to brief state leaders on the Central Database Hub (PADU) is yet to be announced to the public.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah said he cannot reveal the official date of Rafizi coming to the state as it is a government to government (G2G) matter.

“Let that one (his visit) be addressed by the Economy Minister himself,” he said  during a press conference on the Samarahan Food and Cultural Festival at Baitulmakmur Building II here today.

On PADU, he said after Sarawak expressed its concern on its privacy, the Prime Minister had mentioned to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg that there will be improvements to the system.

“It will not be proper for me to inform (about it) so we’ll just have to wait (for the announcement)… but at least our worries are looked into,” he said.

Following this, he commended the federal government for taking action after receiving the views of the people.

“For the federal government to address any issues or concerns raised by the rakyat, it reflects their sensitivity towards the people’s views. This is a very good action from the federal government,” he said.

On March 21, an official memorandum was issued advising against registering on PADU due to security concerns that had gone viral.

The memo advises residents in various districts and Resident’s Office staff to refrain from registering their information on PADU until further notice.

Additionally, it requested the extension of the directive to community leaders, village chiefs, and village development and security committees (JKKK) under the purview of the relevant offices.
