Reach out to us, councillors urge youths

KUCHING: The public are told to reach out to their local councillors to voice out issues for the betterment of the people.

According to Cr Ling Hua Wee, the public very much depended on councillors compared to other government agencies.

“We (councillors and the public) both want to live in a better environment and to develop Sarawak.

“Thus, I urge people especially the youths to stand out and voice out your ideas. We hear you,” he assured.

Ling was among 31 councillors swearing in for Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) yesterday at Pullman Hotel here, serving his second term.

Ling assured that the government would look seriously into taking care of the youth whilst continuing the effort to develop the state.

“The state government will not abandon the youth. However, we also hope the youth will reach out to us and contribute, so that we can come up with new initiatives together,” he continued.

Maradong and Julau District Council (MDMJ) new councillor Fitz Patrick also assured that she would do her best for the people.

“My vision is to put the people in my division first in line with the state government’s policy in putting Sarawak First,” she said.

“I hope after this we can bring more development to our place especially the rural areas.”

She added, “Since we (councillors) are all from GPS, I believe we can work together and bring more development in the future.”
