KUCHING: The inaugural Sarawak Bomba Run 1.0 has attracted an impressive 3,380 participants from various age groups at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) today (Dec 3).

Organised by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the event started with participants gathering at the starting point by 5.45 am.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the guest of honour, flagged off the run, which offered two categories: a 3km family fun run and a 10km competitive run.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Sarawak Bomba director Datuk Khirudin Drahman were also present.

The family fun run attracted 2,742 runners, while 638 enthusiasts competed in the 10km run.

The run aimed to support charitable causes and promote health among Bomba staff and community members.

Five charities received donations at the event: Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home, Datuk Ajibah Abol Children’s Home, Sarawak Bomba Welfare Association’s Welfare Fund (PESKEB), Critically Ill Firefighters Charity Fund, and Palestine Disaster Fund. The Palestine Disaster Fund received RM5,000, while the other beneficiaries each received RM10,000.

Additional activities included a lucky draw, a fire safety campaign, Bomba demonstrations and exhibitions, government agency displays, a fire truck parade, a children’s colouring contest, and health checks for attendees.
