KUCHING: Today, on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the spirit of humanitarianism reverberated through the city as the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), Kuching Branch, commemorated the occasion with heartfelt gestures of kindness and generosity.

Honouring the legacy of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, volunteers and staff dedicated themselves to uplifting the community and celebrating the essence of humanity.

“The day commenced with a noble initiative, as the Malaysian Red Crescent extended warm welcome to the first three newborns gracing the world on May 8, 2024,” said Dr Chou Chii Ming, deputy chairperson https://www.newsarawaktribune.com.my/taibs-legacy-a-privilege-for-sarawakians/of the Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching Branch to reporters today (May 8).

“As the day drew to a close, the spirit of unity and kindness prevailed, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who participated. With the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive,” the Malaysian Red Crescent reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a world where compassion knows no boundaries.

“Hampers were graciously presented to the families of the newborn Bidayuh, Malay, and Melanau babies born at 1.44 am, 2.56 am, and 3.02 am, respectively. These symbolic gifts symbolised the promise of hope and solidarity for the future generation,” he said.

MRC continued its tradition of spreading joy by recognising the mothers of the newborns and honouring all mothers on the eve of Mother’s Day.

Furthermore, the spirit of compassion extended to the children’s ward, where 140 packets of goodies were distributed to uplift the spirits of young patients.
